Thanks Nick, wasn't a bad trip that one, though you failed to mention how on the way home we noticed what we thought was rain but as we got closer I hastily said to wind the windows up as this so called rain was actually a huge swam of bush bee's, then at the next small town the only thing I had to wash the sticky mangled honey'd bee's from the truck was my shampoo. From memory I did pick up a full load from Townsville back to Brisbane.

Aussie defiance, Aussie pride

For everyone who has suffered at the hands of this horrific event.

Black weekend 2009

Up the side of mountains it glows
Deathly flames growing higher and higher
Along the plains and through valleys it blows
Unchallenged this killer lucent fire.

Red hot embers raining from above
No chance of outrunning its advance
Knows nothing of compassion or love
Teasing with its orange flamed dance.

Leaving behind a landscape so charred
Indiscriminate on how many lives it took
Survivors forever will be mentally scarred
Some lived hiding in a water soaked nook.

Homes and memories razed to the ground
Begins the sifting through the ashes
Ghostly eeriness and desolation abound
The terror through a child’s mind still flashes.

We have all been touched by that horrific weekend
When it seemed like Satan returned with hell
A black time that’s so hard to comprehend
For loved ones, you bid a teary farewell.

Emerging from this blackened barren land
Native animals subdued by injury
A koala drinking from a firies hand
Needing human help through this catastrophe.

To the firies showing valour and tenacity
Continuing the fight, though dead on your feet
Your efforts will be recorded with total veracity
As you never looked into the eyes of defeat.

They’ll build again, standing proud and tall
Strength and determination will be applied
How we fight when our backs are against the wall
One thing that can’t be killed is famous Aussie pride.

Somewhere western Qld.

G'day all & onya Mick, reminds me of a time I slept the night at Cardwell & in the morning was awoken to a racket of Damn Myna birds fightin over the bugs on my stone guard, as far as the Possum goes, mate I can imagine it as a shooting star sailing through the night sky. I had a thought, but I don't think the Melbourne yuppy cafe set would take to diesel marinated BBQ'd Possum. hahahah!!

At ABC radio, Lindsay is to my right

Well it was wonderful for my wife, Bev, & myself to meet Lindsay & I am sure her trip to far north Qld. was an indelible one, Though we were a bit concerned at one stage as we thought we would have to engage the services of fire & rescue to remove Lindsay from the drivers seat of a Kenworth Aerodyne B-double & poor Darryl the driver thought he had lost his beloved rig.

A little further down the road Lindsay started drooling when she saw a all white "fridgie" B-double & had to take some photo's with our scenic mountains in the background, I'm so glad Lindsay didn't go bashing on the drivers door as it certainly looked like the driver was sleeping. Eventually we all ended up in town for lunch, then after visited one of the local watering holes where we had to restrain Lindsay from getting to friendly with a very large croc!.

Bev & myself are looking forward to meeting you all in March, should be a hoot! guys. Dave & Bev.

In the shed

G'day all, thank you for allowing me into your place. Well the last 2 years since I started writing has been one fantastic trip, like riding in an old cab-over on some of those "dips" in central Queensland. Australian bush poetry is my favorite & have received encouraging comments from the likes of John Williamson & Mel from sunrise, also I have had several accolades on my war poetry & received several awards for them. Dave.
